Fundraising

A Letter from Chief BRENDAN KEANE and our President MIKE BURKHART JR.

The Noroton Fire Department is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days per year and ready to lend assistance to you, the members of our community.

Darien is one of the last towns in Fairfield County that has a 100% volunteer fire and rescue service.  The Noroton Fire Department is one of three independent volunteer fire departments in town.    Maintaining a 100% volunteer fire and rescue service saves the town millions of dollars on salaries, benefits and pension liabilities which in turn, helps to keep your tax rate low.  The firefighters who come to assist you are your neighbors and friends.  Together, it is our community that we are committed to help and serve.

Although we receive a small operational budget from the town, it is not enough to keep our doors open.  We thrive through your generous donations.  The donations you make are used for three primary purposes:

·        Help maintain and upgrade our 60+ year old fire house - things have come a long way!  Older fire houses need constant updating to house the larger and heavier equipment and other NFPA related upgrades

·         Purchase updated and new equipment - the science of firefighting and rescue are constantly evolving along with the community's daily lives

·         Funding of advance training - we train to be ready to respond to the wide ranging needs of Darien

Firefighters, as a group, are not very good at asking others for the help,  yet your financial support is critical to us!

The Noroton Fire Department is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Click here to view our status letter. We gladly accept your tax deductible donations and matching gifts.  If you have any questions regarding our non-profit status or matching gift program, please contact at [email protected].

Thank you for your support.

With warmest regards,

Brendan Keane, Chief
Mike Burkhart Jr., President

How can you help us?

Training:

We have a training facility on Ledge Road; however We are always in need of vehicles to train with for fires, extrication, and other vehicle accidents.  If you have a vehicle that is no longer usable to you, it can be donated to the fire department for a tax deduction (standard Blue Book Value)

Thinking about tearing down your home to build a new one?  The fire department would love to have the opportunity to use the home before it’s torn down to use for training.  There is a tax deduction benefit for this; just check with your tax professional.

Fund Drive Campaign:

We mail to all of the property owners in our district.  The letter goes out in the fall, and this is one of our major fund raisers.  We manage this fund raising all on our own, so 100% of your donation goes to the fire department, there is no money paid to outside fund raising companies.

Boat Raffle:

The annual raffle of $20,000 and several other prizes starts in April, and the drawing is held at the Annual Block party which is always the last Saturday in June.

Block Party:

An event that was started at our 100th Anniversary in 1996 has become a staple of the community where we offer food, drink, and entertainment!  This event is free of charge and open to the entire community.  The Block party is held every year on the last Saturday in June.

Golf Outing:

The Noroton Fire Department holds an annual golf outing open to the public. This extremely popular event is tentatively scheduled in August. Please check back with us for more details on participating or sponsoring a hole!
